HKS has launched a swan-neck rear wing for the FL5 Honda Civic Type R in Japan, priced at ¥423,500 including tax, with sales starting September 4 as part of the company's Body Kit Type-S line.
Why swan-neck matters
The distinguishing feature is where the stays attach — to the top surface of the main wing, arcing over it, rather than propping it from below. The arrangement is familiar from modern GT and prototype racing, and HKS says the top-mounted supports reduce interference with the airflow beneath the main element, where the wing does its downforce-generating work.
The main element and end plates form a single molded dry-carbon structure — 7.7 kg for the assembly — with the shape refined through CFD analysis. The angle of attack adjusts through six stages, letting owners trade drag against downforce for street, circuit or high-speed use. It ships clear-coated, installs in about an hour, and can be fitted alongside HKS's existing duck tail spoiler without additional drilling.
Part of a growing FL5 lineup
At ¥423,500 this is serious-money aero for a serious-money hot hatch. The wing joins HKS's existing Body Kit Type-S range for the FL5, which already covers the front bumper spoiler, side skirts, rear bumper spoiler and duck tail — and it can be seen alongside the rest of the current Type R aftermarket taking shape around this chassis.
