Mitsubishi has made September 2 official. The company updated its Pajero teaser site on August 24 to confirm the world premiere date — confirming what Best Car had reported from dealer sources, after Mitsubishi itself had said only that the car would debut this autumn.
The updated teaser also reveals one new detail: a rally-inspired, three-part auxiliary meter display — a feature long associated with the Pajero — reinterpreted, in Mitsubishi's framing, through next-generation digital expression rather than simple nostalgia.
What we know, and what we don't
The confirmed picture heading into September 2 is unchanged on the hardware side: a ladder frame based on the Triton's, plus a cabin and front and rear suspension developed specifically for the Pajero, with S-AWC integrated vehicle dynamics control. The triple-meter display is the new addition. The Pajero will return to Japan seven years after production of the Japan-spec model ended in 2019; the model remained in production for overseas markets until 2021.
Still officially unannounced: powertrain, grades, pricing, market rollout, and whether the reveal will be livestreamed. Best Car has reported a diesel powertrain and an expected price range of roughly ¥5.5 million to ¥7 million, but Mitsubishi has confirmed neither.
Every claim we track on this model — sorted by how solid it is — lives on our New Pajero tracker, where the September 2 date has just moved from "reported" to "confirmed."
Why the triple-meter display matters
As we noted when Team Mitsubishi Ralliart's AXCR winners came home, team director Hiroshi Masuoka — twice a Dakar winner in a Pajero — has tied the nameplate's return to his stated dream of a third straight Asia Cross-Country Rally title with one. Mitsubishi has announced no competition program — but the teaser makes clear that the company wants the new Pajero to be read through its rally heritage.
The full reveal is scheduled for September 2.
